REPLICA 2007

International festival for experimental media-art

The REPLICA festival was launched by the creative group [antiparty gang] in Almaty in 2006, and it was the first festival in Kazakhstan devoted to contemporary media-art. Media-art is an experimental form of musical and visual art that is developing actively along with the spread of new ways of sound and visuals processing. The purpose of the media-art festival is not only to present the current trends in the world of modern art and not only to establish the relation between the young and developing local alternative scene and the mature European one. Its main target is to show huge and interesting layer of culture, existing out of mass-media brands and beyond the traditional art. We would like to show that it is possible not only to listen to the music – it also can be "felt", it is possible not only to watch media-art – you can also "find yourself inside it". We want to present the most interesting and the most affecting pieces of the experimental world culture happening "here and now".

The REPLICA festival will be held for the second time in Almaty in October 2007. As in the previous year the organizers are preparing rich and long program where every participant will present his/her own view on the modern experimental culture. The main principle of the festival is still the eclectic expressive means and surprising results. We do not limit the participants in the styles and do not expect from them to play the way we want. Their performances will be of the same surprise for the organizers as for the public. The festival of the experimental culture is the experiment itself.

This time the program is supposed to take longer time, there will be more participants to perform, and performances will be more diverse. The event will be held in the form of an open concert as European festivals of electronic art are held, in democratic and informal atmosphere. The projects from Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Great Britain, Ukraine and Kazakhstan will participate in the event. We will also present the number of master classes, lectures and press conferences within the framework of the festival. So, arm yourself with the patience and curiosity, and collect your strength – see you at the REPLICA fest!
